the "it" in "getting it"
I've traded a few correspondences with a fascinating fellow who goes by the name of Spartacus, and can say without a doubt This guy gets it. "And what 'it' is that?" you ask. Well, the it refers not only to the severity of what has befallen our country - the post-Constitutional mayhem which exclusively serves a Fascist Oligarchy - but the reality of the epic struggle we face in attempting to reclaim that which we have allowed to slip through our fingers. He's given me a great deal of food for thought during our brief acquaintance.
We have fallen down a very, very deep well. Pardon me for sounding pedantic, but nowhere near enough of us have yet come to terms with the fact that this struggle is generational in nature. Although I recognize effective resistance is not a numbers game, nonetheless, numbers are not insignificant to the battle. Perhaps, more people are starting to realize, as my colleague LarryE said recently, "It's a lifetime gig." I hope so. Even for a firebrand like me, this realization is both frightening and liberating.
As I mentioned my previous post, we would do well to stop thinking of every upcoming election as an end unto itself. Although traditional institutions are only part of the equation in our struggle, a disproportionate emphasis on short-term objectives makes institutional reform virtually impossible - and we need all the help we can get.
Damn, I'm reeling & rattling with a nasty chest cold, so, quick, before this Nyquil kicks in (yeah, I know... I'm too late), where was I???
Oh, yeah. Recommending you bookmark Spartacus' oddly named blog, Skookum... because, well, as I think you'll see, he gets it.
