Solid as a Rock

The rumblings continue.

Rice Wants It--But in Draft Form:

Political associates of Secretary of State Condi Rice are stirring the 2008 presidential pot on her behalf. While she takes the high road, they're pushing her name out there. "She definitely wants to be president," said one. But, the friend added, Rice isn't planning on quitting to run. "She wants to be drafted," he said.

It's not difficult to imagine today's architects of conventional wisdom proclaiming Rice the successor to the Bush Legacy. In a way, it only seems fitting Rice follow the most hated president in American history. She has a better shot at the crown than the ghoulish Bill Frist, though I can't say for sure which one would be worse. (Which begs the question: Who would be worse - Biden or Lieberman?)

And what would a majority of Americans think? Who cares. As long as votes continue to disappear into the black hole of Republican-crafted computer screens, consensus isn't much of an issue, is it?
