A Very Zemblan "Homecoming"
Talk about synchronicity.
Cable network Showtime launched a promotion on Direct TV allowing non-subscriber access this weekend, an amazingly fortuitous event which permitted me to watch "Masters of Horror: Homecoming." The teleplay was written by Sam Hamm (Batman, Batman Returns, Monkeybone). Joe Dante (Gremlins, The 'burbs) directed.
No punches were pulled. This story has it all: Fascist punditry. The lie of "weapons of mass destruction." Systematic voter disenfranchisement. The Rightwing's absolute heartlessness toward the fate, and even the role of, American soldiers. Justice takes some amusing and cathartic forms.
Time doesn't permit a review, but suffice to say "Homecoming" is a hamm-fisted work, ready to rumble and certain to outrage You Know Who. Congratulations to everyone involved with this incendiary project. Showtime, in particular, deserves credit for bringing "Homecoming" to the public -- with a cherry on top for showing "Farenheit 911" before the premier. The Age of Subtlety will just have to wait.
