Dick Durbin: Not as sorry as I am.
I've been told I'm not being fair to Senator Durbin - that he's a good guy who received no moral support from the Democratic Party following his condemnation of torture. True enough, but on what planet has he been residing for the last twenty years? Support? To put it kindly, it's a little early to expect support from this crowd.
Never apologize for speaking the truth.
When a Dem politician speaks the truth and later apologizes for it, he or she is perpetuating the party's subjugation to the NeoCon Monolith. I'm not altogether unsympathetic to Durbin's position, but his actions make the difficult job of the rank & file liberators that much more difficult. My criticism of Durbin has nothing to do with his character - it's the strategy (or lack thereof) that concerns me. And it's time for Dems - thoughtful and otherwise - to start paying strict attention.
