Bobby Sands died 25 years ago today. He was a member of the Irish Republican Army, very briefly a member of the British parliament, and died as a consequence of a hunger strike while in a British prison. Wikipedia has a pretty decent article discussing his brief life, and the impact he had on people. (In Tehran there is a Bobby Sands Street, which used to be named after Winston Churchill in the days of the Shah.)
Frederick at Demagogue reminded me of the anniversary, and notes this Independent article. And there's this, from his hometown newspaper.
