Obit: There goes Johnny
He was like your fun uncle, the one who, wearing both vice and virtue on his sleeve (a quality now referred to derisively as sincerity), always knew how to have a great time without pissing off everyone in the family. Johnny Carson, unlike today's hosts of late night TV, actually listened to what his guests had to say. Although he rarely missed an opportunity to take advantage of a well-timed observation, guests weren't merely props for Johnny's aggrandizement. Of course, he'll be missed. He's been missed since retiring from "The Tonight Show" in 1992.
